WeBus has been publicly available since 18 August 2026. The web-based simulation tool was built in the research project E-Bus 2030+, together with Berlin’s public transport operator BVG and the Reiner Lemoine Institute, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Transport.
WeBus works with real timetable data in the VDV 451 format. You compare battery sizes, charging concepts and the build-out of charging infrastructure at depots and route ends. The tool shows how each of these decisions affects fleet size, energy demand and cost. Vehicles, charging infrastructure and operations are treated as one system, so interactions become visible early. The source code is open.
For opt-e-fleet, WeBus is the first prototype: a freely accessible tool with which transit operators work out their own electrification. We are extending this approach into a full planning platform for buses, trucks and trains.
